Whether you’re in Singapore or abroad, here’s how you can celebrate Singapore’s birthday with gusto.

15 Jul 2022 / By SGN

It’s that time of the year again – to bring out the face paint and get all decked out in red and white to show our love for Singapore!

Whether you’re gathering with friends and family, watching the Parade live at Marina Bay, or celebrating from home in a faraway land, here are various ways to join in the festivities as we unite as one people, one nation, one Singapore. 🇸🇬🎆

Online Celebrations

1. National Day Parade Livestream

Singaporeans will be out in full force at The Float @ Marina Bay, with this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) showcasing performances by over 2,000 participants before a 25,000-strong audience.

The show segment – titled The Story of Us and directed by veteran actor Adrian Pang – will celebrate our emergence from pandemic over the past two years. One of its five chapters, Lights in the Dark, will pay tribute to the fortitude of Singapore’s frontline workers and feature a moving performance by singer-songwriter Aisyah Aziz.

If you can’t catch the parade in person, tune in live on 9 August via the official NDPeeps YouTube page.

2. SGN Presents: Singapore @ Home

Brought to you by Singapore Global Network in collaboration with Dick Lee Asia and mm2 Asia, the second edition of Singapore @ Home promises a fun and entertaining line-up that will connect Singaporeans across the world this National Day.

Helmed by creative director Hossan Leong, who will also take on hosting duties alongside Siti Khalijah, the 6-hour programme is jam-packed with short films about familiar sights and tastes of Singapore, captivating stories of overseas Singaporeans and homegrown brands, as well as musical performances by artistes such as Taufik Batisah, Annette Lee and Benjamin Kheng.

Look forward to live quizzes that test your Singapore knowledge and exciting games including Word-leh!, the Singlish version of Wordle.

We’re also funding watch parties (virtual or physical), so gather your friends and family for the occasion! Find out more and register today at the Singapore @ Home event page.

5. Heartland Festivities

Our Singapore heartlands are coming to life over the weekend before National Day with carnivals in Geylang Serai, Buona Vista, Bishan–Ang Mo Kio, Punggol and Sembawang. Expect family activities, exhibitions, musical and dance performances, and thrilling freefall jumps by the Singapore Armed Forces Parachute Team, better known as the Red Lions.

Don’t miss the spectacular fireworks displays happening at five locations around the island on 9 August! You can find carnival tickets and more details on the official webpage.

6. National Museum Light-up

From now till 10 August, the facade of the National Museum of Singapore will light up daily from 7.30pm to midnight with the colours and symbols that represent our country. It’s a perfect photo opportunity for you and your loved ones! As a bonus, admission to all galleries in the museum is also free from 6 to 9 August.

7. Feast Up for Singapore

Nothing unites Singaporeans more than our love for food. 😋

If you’re after a National Day buffet feast that pays tribute to our culinary heritage, try the multi-ethnic spread at Grand Hyatt Singapore’s Straits Kitchen, which includes ikan bakar sambal, banana fritters and fried durian balls. For something a little more adventurous, check out Racines at Sofitel Singapore City Centre, which serves fusion dishes such as curry capellini and laksa gravlax.

Over at 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung, the Asian appetiser platter offers scrumptious bites of chilli king crab and satay kueh pie tee, while famed burger bar 25 Degrees has a limited-edition chicken rendang burger to commemorate the special occasion. You can also check out these National Day coupons, available for dine-in and delivery options for every palate – whether it’s dim sum, fast food, nasi lemak, pizza or high tea.

Can’t make it back to Singapore? Recreate a taste of home with these delectable recipes from friends of SGN!

Wherever you are, and however you choose to celebrate this August, we hope you’ll have a wonderful and memorable time. Here’s wishing our beloved Singapore a very Happy 57th National Day! ❤️🤍
