Cultivating Meats with Science: How Shiok Meats’ Founder Ka Yi Ling Grows Sustainable Seafood with Cell Technology
When we think of seafood, we think of shrimps, crabs, and lobsters freshly caught from the ocean. At Shiok Meats, chief technical officer and co-founder Ka Yi Ling leads a team of scientists to grow sustainable and environmentally-friendly crustacean meats by cultivating stem cells in a lab tucked away in Singapore.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to do important work at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, better known as NASA. That’s what Singaporean scientific researcher Poh Gang Kai discovered when he was hired by NASA to work at the Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland. His role is studying the space environment on Mars so that humans can, as one famous television show proclaimed, boldly go where no one has gone before.
Calvin grew up in Singapore where he lived for over 10 years. He regards Singapore as much of a home as his birth country Indonesia.
